Who we are
YAK Adventures was started by two kayaking and fishing enthusiasts in Baltimore, Maryland. With their increasing passion for watersports, they realized they could share these experiences with those who need it most.
We learned about kayaking in the Baltimore region — home to dozens of kayaking clubs and groups — and saw an opportunity to channel that community into something life-changing for veterans and first responders.
Our mission is to offer participants a fun, safe, unique, and enjoyable experience that directly supports organizations providing rehabilitation to veterans and first responders.
"Supporting Veterans and First Responders with PTSD — one paddle stroke at a time."
Why Kayaking?
Multiple studies show that exercise may give those suffering from PTSD a break from difficult emotions — distracting from painful memories and worries while improving self-esteem and creating feelings of personal control.
Being able to share personal experiences and coping methods, and the bonds you forge on the water, also help participants in profound ways (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs).
YAK Adventures brings a unique format that allows all experience levels to enjoy the outdoors, combining kayaking with an entertainment aspect that fosters a faithful, growing community year over year.
